weekend reflections

January 20 stone~

huddled near the edge of the ice
as though it's
their office water cooler
i wonder ~

do they ever get cold feet?

time again for weekend reflections.   i haven't picked up my camera for the better part of the week.  i like that - taking a leave of absence from snapping life in second-fragments.   for that reason i don't have much this week for reflections.   i was busy slacking off like these guys.

every time i drive past the pond they're there- at the edge of the ice.  a culvert runs beneath the road - from the hillside to the pond.   the flowing water keeps the ice open at that spot.  don't they look cold?   i wonder.

and of course if it's weekend reflections that means time for the weekly selfie...

see, here's the thing.  i had the song "behind blue eyes" running through my head.  you know the one, right?  The Who?

"No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

No one knows what it's like
To be hated
To be fated
To telling only lies

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free"

i have blue eyes (but my love isn't vengeance).  singing that song all the day long gave me the idea to photograph my eyes.  what ensued was a comedy of errors.   have you any idea how not easy it is to photograph your own eyes?  try it yourself.  perhaps i went about it all wrong.  but any other way just wouldn't have been as much fun.   i finally did get a few photos of my blue eyes but i liked the above photo the best.  and my eyes aren't even in it (too bad my nostrils are but at least they're not flaring).  but check out the reflection in my camera lens.   the sun is streaming in and shining on the jade and the ponytail palm.  i like that.   you'll see way more interesting reflections over at James' Weekend Reflections.  hop over there and say hello.   you'll be glad you did.   thanks for looking at my photos.  happy friday everyone.  go have a fish fry.  unless there's a big snowstorm coming.  and there IS.  my feet are dancing...

I would think they would be cold!
The description of your selfie gave me a laugh. And OHHH, I love jade plants. We have about seven of them scattered around outside. So easy to grow, we take clippings from the large ones, and in no time they are off and running. :)

Here it was cold, too.
Well. as long as there is open water it is great. Here we have had winters everything was frozen. Well, not this winter until now.

I like that selfie shot and am trying to figure out how you got the reflections just so. I am also trying very hard to keep from having that song run through my head all day long now. Thanks a lot! (:^0))

Both shots are nice! I've often wondered if birds get cold. I'm not thinking they do...
Have a good weekend Becky!

Love the duck photo. Apparently their feet do not get cold as they have blood vessel there that keep them warm.

Brrrrrr! They seem to be a little cold! here, it's warm..
Your second shot shows an excellent reflection!

Cold feet is right! That is such a crisp shot, with personality. I like your words that go with it, and the song... now I will be humming. Your selfies are entertaining, in the ones you choose. Had my fish fry last night, so I'm caught up. :) Felt like frying up catfish w/ black beans and rice. Have a great weekend!

Very nice shots both, Ms. Becky. I have mallards behind my apartment. Usually they stay right by the edge of the water, but last weekend a pair of them flew onto an ice chunk floating way out in the middle. There they hunkered down and napped in the sunshine. It was way below freezing, but they somehow looked very cozy as they drifted along.

And I can relate about the eyes. I've been trying to photograph mine for {In the Picture}. It's not easy!

I'm sure those ducks don't mind the cold, like your selfie this week.

They look a might chilly! Terrific shots, ducks are one of my favourites to photograph. Enjoy your weekend!

So, Becky, you dance too when snow is coming? Someday, we'll do a jig together. That poor duck standing on one foot is definitely trying to warm up the other one. How could they not be cold? I'm shivering just looking at your photo. Now, I suppose I'll have to take your challenge and try to photograph my eyes.

Caught...smiling hugely!!!
Yes, I have taken images of my eyes...once.
It was funny, but I used my smaller point and shoot Nikon...just placed it on macro, moved it in direction of eyes and wahlah... No, I am not going to post them either;~
Those ducks do look cold, but then a pillow filled with their down, is pretty warm and cozy, so maybe the feet are the things that get cold...what about their duck bills..they are always tucking them in their wing, maybe they get cold as well.
Have a marvelous weekend.
Stay warm, stay safe~

Good half-selfie (I don't know if I've ever tried to photograph my own eyes) and I love the shot of the ducks. The female is only getting one cold foot at a time, it seems. Excellent idea, Ms Ducky and Ms Becky.

Love the ducks...and I love your thoughts. Thanks for reminding me of a song I really loved...now its running through my head!

The one little duck looks as though it has one of its feet tucked up under its feathers.

Great reflection in that camera lenses.

We might be getting our first snow of the year. Even with one less job I'm still not finding time for everything I want to do - especially with photography. Well we did have fish, but not fried - I make a tuna salad with walnuts, raisins, white beans plus on a salad.

Hey listen nostril flaring happy feet....
Both these images I like. My eye went instantly inside the lens. I love too that your hands are visible. I like hands in photos-not sure why, but hands are cool.
As for the ducks-the stone is wonderful and the subtlty of the reflection mirrors their quiet repose.
Enjoy that damn white stuff. I got slammed another 4-5 inches overnight. A few more tomorrow. Give me strength.

Love the perspective of the pair of ducks on ice. They somehow do survive the winter.

Ohhhhh I love the mallard ducks photo. I've been wanting to stop by this lake with an opening by the bridge. The area is filled with ducks. Hundreds of ducks.
Now I really want to stop there and get some pictures taken.
Cool pic of you with camera....love the reflection!

I have always wondered that about ducks. If your in a sharing mood feel free to send some snow my way.

A magical small stone! The gentle question sounds so concerned for the little ones' welfare! I found it very touching!

And those poor ducks! Perhaps they may get to face this each year, but do they ever really acclimatise?

And then your selfie! Sounds like my bathroom comedy trying to get a photo of my "better side"! My best shots were those of my contorted arms - constantly covering my face in the process!

A great sad and smiley post! Yin and yang!

Great post! I used to wonder the same thing about ducks and geese on frozen ponds and rivers when I lived in Newtown, PA. Very cool selfie but now I have another song stuck in my head. Thanks :)

The duckies are brave - they MUST get cold feet, I'm sure. And these lyrics are incredible. I love this song.
