weekend reflections

January 6 stone~

hear ye, hear ye!
throw open the doors and windows,
hear the sounds of the street -
it's 50 degrees
oh my, what heat.

And it may be one for the record books.   Yes, that's what the weatherman predicted last night - a record high temp for today.  It isn't yet noon and the mercury sits at 50 F.   My windows are open, the furnace switched to off.    Who would have thought it possible to sweat in January?   The weatherman also promised a chill for the end of next week.   Now he's talking...

For this week's reflections I'm posting some photos that, for whatever reason, didn't previously make the cut.   Just over-looked I guess.   And here's a good reason - I haven't picked up my camera yet this year except for this morning.

No, that wasn't taken at my house on New Year's Eve.  It was taken a few months back at the Milwaukee Safe House.   I was there for a Friday night fish fry with friends.   If you're ever in the area looking for something out of the ordinary, head over there.   It's a spy-themed restaurant that requires a password for entrance - through a hidden alley-way door,  after a bookcase slides open.    And it's all being recorded by camera for the enjoyment of those who've already gained passage and are sitting down to their meal!   The place is filled with espionage memorabilia.  FYI,  there is a trick bar stool!    Fun spot.   But stick to the burgers if you're there to eat...

                                                                                   411 Main

Racine doors, combining my two favorite colors.

                                                                              street puddle

We haven't seen any snow flakes yet this winter, but we've seen a lot of rain.

                                                                    Lake Front Lagoon, Milwaukee

Something nice and serene.   That one was taken just before the holidays.  No ice on the lagoon.   Freaky.

To round things off...

First selfie of 2012.   Got out of bed and snapped it standing before the downstair's bathroom mirror.      Disheveled hair and all.  Hadn't had my cup 'o Jane yet either.   I'm joining Urban Muser (Christy) in her {in the picture] selfie project of 2012.   She's at the top of my current and ever-changing  "most admired and talented photographers" list.   Truth-be-told, at one time I was intimidated by her talents, but that got boring and I'm over it.   Now I want to explore with her and find some fun.   Check it out and come along.

I'm linking up with James and the crowd over at Weekend Reflections.   Head over there too and see what all the reflection-hunters found this week.  James himself never fails to snap a perfect reflection shot.  Happy Friday everyone.   Go have a fish fry and a beer.  Or two.

Hey friend...nice stone.
Love, love, love 411 Main. My fave of today's collection. I remember you talking about the first fry place-that shot of the glasses and the light-love the repetition of shape. Your selfie is funny. I recently did a bad hair day shot for a 101 item scavenger hunt I'm working on. I've been thinking of joining christie as well. Perhaps I'll start with the bad hair-I'll be in good company.
Happy day friend.

Another fun one for the day, Becky! Love the espionage restaurant! Ah, and that's the only way I take photos of me anymore -- either that or a pillowcase over my head!! Hope your new year is off to a great start! Enjoy your weekend!

Loved your post. Fun and Interesting. We had you beat with the heat though at 69 on January 4th!

I am going to the opposite side of thinking from TWG. I think throwing your hand up there adds an element of fun to the picture. It's one thing that celebs do that with the paparazzi around but to do it to yourself, now that is funny. But I do agree with her, you are such a NUT.

Becky - You look like you're trying to avoid the camera in the espionage place. I like the doors and the puddles. Have a happy weekend - my Grands are coming.

I so hate selfie photos! Glad to have Picasa edits on my side to blur details! You are very brave! Love the lake and puddle reflections! A beautiful sense of serenity in both!

Wonderful assortment of reflections and the selfie made me laugh. I don't look at myself in the morning if I can help it.

Haha! I love to hear your ideas on weather - you would have been jealous of our GA cold front last week. It was in the 20's! Brrr, we had no proper outerwear. :)! Today, back to 60. I do like it chilly in winter, and for us, that would be 50's. Love the shot of the glasses. And the spy bar? Totally want to check that place out!

All of these make the cut! Very nice... Fifty degrees for a record high? Oh man! That is why I live where I do. "If palm trees don't grow there, don't go there...."

You make me laugh, Becky. And thanks for your wonderful comment to me yesterday. Shall we start a mutual admiration society? :)

You're a stitch and a half, Becky! Sweat in 50F? I'd be wearing seven layers of clothes in that temp. Here we had a COLD day of 25C - that's 77F for you - and I need to wear long sleeves and sleep under a blanket. LOL! Is it me or are those especially narrow doors? Great colors and reflection... (but I had to go look up the meaning of Racine doors... again LOL!) Another brave selfie. I checked out Christy's project and am tempted to join, but don't know if I could keep up with it as more travel is soon in store for me... and with her video she has set a very high bar! So my private jury is still out on that one. :-)

I love your shots and your selfie cracks me up because it's like "no don't take my picture", but it's you taking it. :)

The Milwaukee Safe House sounds fun!
