shadow shot sunday

I awoke this morning to a white world.   Yes, that's right.   It snowed overnight!    Alas, it was "a dusting", precisely what the weatherman had predicted, and no more.    For the most part, it has melted already, and the forecast high for tomorrow is 45 degrees.    It is not looking good for a white Christmas, but that is still one week away and anything could happen.    My hope is not deterred!      The sun was shining yesterday, and you know what that means....shadows!

That's my Hyundai.    I was a passenger while someone else drove me around, now how cool is that?    We were driving down south Lake Dr. in Bay View.   That's Lake Michigan just over the bluff there.  And isn't it nice that they still use the wooden slat snow fences instead of those horrible orange plastic things?    The winds blow fiercely across that lake, creating some serious snowdrifts along there.   Last year when we had the great blizzard and 27" of snow, the drifts were so high it took them two days to open up the street.   And remnants of the drifts were there well into the month of April.    But I digress.    I couldn't decide which version I like better, so I'm posting both.

We have new hosts for Shadow Shot Sunday this week, so head on over to Shadow Shot Sunday 2 and greet Gemma, Magical Mystery Teacher, and Rose.    You'll see some fantastic shadow shots too!   Happy weekend everyone.

Cool car shadow! Childhood memories here of staring out the window at our car's shadow growing taller or shorter as we drove along.

Great shadow shot for the day, Becky! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Being this close to Winter, I prefer the look of the blue sky instead of the gray - it feels a bit warmer! Those lake effect snows from Michigan sound horrible. Well, not that bad and fresh snow is pretty. Not that nature allows us a choice :)

i like the old snowfences too! haven't seen them in YEARS! :)

Long shadows like that make me feel cold.

You are an early bird! It still takes some hours until we have sunday. :-)

Love both pics!

I think I like the colored shadow photo better...but even at a distance, I bet that Lake M is cold this time of year...blizzard or NO blizzard.

SHADOW OF CHRIST is my direct link for Shadow Shot Sunday2.

I like both shots but am preferring the colored one ... just feels warmer on these cool days! Great shots!

If I was looking for creative art I would prefer the first photo! It is so enchanting! If I was looking for a sense of scenery brushed with light and shadow I would choose the lovely view in the second photo! Yes! I love both!

Awesome photos, love the long shadows and the beautiful trees. I think i prefer the colour, better for catching a glimpse of the lake- but both are cool!

Love your car...well, the shadow of it! Keep on hoping for the white landscape. I think we'll have it so I will send it to you!

Still waiting for white here, too. Strange isn't it ... how the winter is so mild.

Happy Weekend to you! Interesting that different things catch my eye in the different versions. I like them both, and refuse to choose ;)

Very cool shadow! I can hardly believe you had so much snow last year, and now none . . .

Very cool shot!
I will be wishing for you a white Christmas. :)

It looks like something out of Yellow Submarine! Snow for Christmas! (Not likely for us.)

Since I go most winters without seeing snow, I've never seen a snow fence that I'm aware of. Interesting!

I like your car shadows and think I actually like the first one best. It seems to fit the season better.

I like both photos and am not surprised you couldn't decide. The first one is seriously cool (no pun intended) but I like the second because it shows the blue of the lake.
Yes, I hate orange plastic snow fences. Plug-ugly!

A dusting of snow sounds so good to me! I don't think I'd fancy any of those crazy snow blizzards you guys sometimes have!

Love both the photos but I'm leaning more towards the second one as my fave!

Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

You had fun playing with these shots--and I had fun looking at them!

Why are you so uptight, folks?
Can’t you take light’s little jokes?

I'm no help-I like them both! The first looks like a dream sequence. The second looks surreal-so they both have a dream like quality.

Are you sure that's not the Mother ship, LOVE the second shot, the lake is more visible and it delights me to see the sunshine, though it was still out today when I got home from work at 4:00, time enough to let the chickens out to forage for an hour or so. It's so funny, when I drive into the drive in front of their coop, they all jump up on their roost to see me, cause they know I will let them out to play for a while...and they call them dumb chickens, not my girls!

What a great shot - almost makes the car look like one of those "space age" cars they predicted back in the 50's

Love them both - the colors are gorgeous - the spaceship has landed!

How blessed you are to live so close to such a beautiful lake.

Love the pictures!!!

What a fantastic shadow..so perfectly crisp and clear. And - we're still awaiting that first snow...!

Hey friend....what a fun shadow. I don't often think to do shadow shots, except of myself. Hmmm. What does that mean?
I can see why you couldn't choose. I like both as well. Glad you had at least a little dusting of snow. It's a start. We had flurries yesterday which amounted to nothing. Yay for me. Virtual wicked good hugs from me to you.

my vote is for the first one. it looks more like the winter wonderland of which you are seeking. we have a dusting of snow that came yesterday afternoon while we were shopping. i believe it put some in the Christmas mood...while others were just plain rude. oh well. happy SSS ms. becky. Merry Christmas.

Oh dear... they are using horrible orange plastic things there too? Never mind... your shadow shot is stellar! And you know, I can't decide which one I like better either. I went oooh with the first one... then oh yeah! with the second... but I still don't know...

PS. There's something neat about two bloggers visiting each others blogs at the same time. :-)

I like your treatment of both these shots, you really have accentuated the shadows.

Still better at words than photos -Thanks for the link and the prompts, enjoy...

12/18/11 The Cup Half Full Runeth Over

What is it… sugar, water, mixed and whipped?
The sugar plums and chocolate coins of sleeping children
Spinning tops or watching the train circle the evergreen = joy
From the window candles, blinking bulbs and gathered families
Only half of what can be imagined is what is in the scene

What is it… potatoes, red cabbage, wine, fried onions
The dishes we are asked to bring to feed adults who act like children
Spinning on the dance floor in our finest dress = joy
Looking out the window expecting and receiving snow
Only half of what can be expected when the clock strikes twelve

What is it… the curve and line, the dot making the letter
The words that are read from year to year for the children
To remember miracles both large and small = joy
From the window if you listen the words of worshipers all
Only half of what can be imagined is what is in the scene

Becks,
well, at least your weather man is correct! our last 2 storms they predicted up to 6" of snow... and while our mountains got a fair amount, in town just enough to cover it in white, but it mostly melted a few days later. I did enjoy walking around & photographing while it lasted. We are supposed to have another storm system coming in tonight! :)
Your Hyundai shadow looks like a UFO!
