shadow shot sunday
And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places.
~Roald Dahl
metal/wood/bone
when I was taking the master gardener class at Boerner Botanical Gardens I preferred to arriving early so that I could take a stroll around the gardens with my camera. one day I noticed these unusual metal baskets filled with antlers and wood pieces resembling antlers. I never inquired as to why they contained what they did, but I was immediately smitten - look, bowls of nature! It isn't obvious from the photos, but they're huge. I suspect the antlers were found on the grounds and simply saved for their beauty. I couldn't decide if I liked the photo better as color or black and white, so I'm posting both.
do you have a preference?
hop over and visit Tracy at Hey Harriet to check out all the shadow chasers around the globe. I woke to moody clouds this morning, but it's truly a beautiful day. happy Saturday everyone. Sit long, talk much.
Spadoman at Round Circle is one of those shadow chasers, and he could use some light and love...how about paying him a visit and sending him some cheer if you have a few moments to spare?

The basket looks as if it were a rake, pulling the lovely details into the motif. Cool...I think I like the B&W view, as it is now autumn and the foliage is becoming a monochrome view anyway. So the starkness of shadow is more apparent. The stark also gives us an appreciation for the next upcoming spring...
And I think I like the one with color...maybe because it shows contrast better for me. What an interesting combination!
Both good, but I like the color one better.
Both photos are lovely...I can see why you had trouble choosing. The quote is wonderful too!
I prefer the coloured one! (I am just searching for nice colours today).
i like the color one. just a few subtle wood tones is all that's required. :)
I like the sturdiness of the iron baskets (in color!), and the fact that I can see tiny shadows in the weather-pitted iron. Magical!
I HAVE A LITTLE SHADOW
I have a little shadow that always follows me;
My shadow is my best friend, as anyone can see.
No matter where my feet go, my shadow’s always there—
Except, of course, at midnight with darkness everywhere!

What a lovely capture for the day and how different! They certainly put the old antlers to good use. I particularly love the first shot with the subtle, beautiful colors! Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Ms. Becky!!

Guess I have to be different (except for Ralph), I like the black & white, for the same reason Evelyn likes the color. Well that's what makes this world interesting, different opinions and points of view. Cold today here, 30 degrees. The birds are ice skating on their bird bath. Probably t-shirt weather for Wisconsin folk. Have a nice weekend Becky.
sorry...can't decide...they are both beauties. but if you are going to twist my arm...i will pick b & w. happy sss ms. becky!!
Hello Ms. Becky and thank yu for your kind words : )
These "bowls" are simply beautiful and I too would have a hard time trying to decide which of the pictures I like best .. they are both perfect !
Joy : )
Hi Ms. Becky,
I like your take on the baskets ~ 'bowls of nature' is so fitting.
I prefer the color version.
I just read with interest your 57 things..I'm about to turn 57 myself.
Thanks for stopping by and admiring Linus!
hi sweet Becky (only today I realized you're also a Reiki practioner! I'm a teacher since 2004!) I prefered the coloured one (also because of the perspective). I've started answering your inspiring questions, here my friend: http://dreamyproject.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html. let me know what you think when you've the time. have a great Saturday. xxo
'Bowls of nature' Becky those are gorgeous. I like the coloured pic best.
Wonderfully captured, nice texture.
Although both are great, I prefer the b&w...
Have a good weekend!
Love the ambience of mystery in the coloured photo, but the monochrome rings with intriguing detail! That means I can't prefer one over the other! Fascinating find!
the wood tones are lovely in the color shot yet the b&w allows the dramatic lines to come forth
so I love both :)
Like two kids. I love them both. http://looseleafnotes.com
I like the black & white. It shows the texture and line better, I think, and the background is less intrusive.
Now I'm going to visit Spadoman...
Very nice contrast in your shots. Nothing worn with either of them.
Beautiful shadows and textures, can't decide which I like the best.
I really like the B & W - so much depth and texture. Hope your T-giving is a good one, Becky.
Wow! Gorgeous. I prefer the b&w one. It's more intriguing to me.
love the depth in the black and white!
I like those baskets, I wouldn't mind having those decorate my garden.
Beautiful!
I'd Love to have one!
They make for a very interesting photo too!
I like both pics....I usually love mainly color pictures, but I love both of these equaly.
Great shots!
Good that you arrived early, you certainly discovered something mystical... I think I prefer the Black and White one more, it looks more powerful and magical...
Have a fabulous Sunday Becky:)
I like that quote and the images you have chosen to illustrate it.
I like both Becky as they leave different impressions..one rich and one stark I think...
Argh! i was on the road when I posted this and did not realize that post intended was still in draft format!
Here's the REAL SSS post:

I can't decide which version I like either! I like them both! And, I LOVE those bowls with the antlers. Brilliant!
I like the b&w one best because the textures and details are really emphasized.
I think they are both pretty but am wondering about the sepia treatment..maybe I would like it even better..
Oh gosh I can't decide which one I like the best. I think I'm swaying more toward the colour one, but I like the b&w too! Lovely photos!
Enjoy your weekend Becky! I'm now off to visit our friend Spadoman.
How wonderful, a bowl full of nature! I think I like the colour.
Such pretty bowls of nature! I like them both, but prefer the colour shot.
what a lovely natural shot - beautiful patterns....
Very lovely Becky!
Color photos are always nice, but for me, monochrome in black and whites make such a dramatic appeal to the textures and lighting.
SHADOWS & Sunday Summary
Hello, Ms Becky. Thanks for your beautiful comment on my blog. This sure is an interesting subject and a great capture. Hmmm...I really like the B&W as the shadow is more pronounced here. Also, the focus is entirely foreground - all about the subject.
Impossible to say which is better because they're both good.
Maybe the top one is more dramatic but I like b/w pics as you know! :)
ps. I changed web host, since that I've had no problems at all!
What a fabulous mix and the monochrome shot is out of this world. You are so good with that camera. I really do like this one. Maybe master gardeners are also automatically master photographers. It does seem like the two would go hand in hand. Thanks for your continued support. I always enjoy reading your little notes to me. genie
Amazing -the different textures in materials here. What a great find! And - I think I prefer the abstractness of the b&w!
Really love both the color and black and white versions of your photo.
Thanks for the heads-up on Spadoman. He's a long time blog buddy but I've not kept up with a lot of blogs and had no idea of what he's been dealing with. Got right over there to leave a comment.
Love ya,
G
Beautiful shots!
Sun Catcher Shadows , happy Thanksgiving!
"bowls of nature".... love it.
I prefer the color photo. Alot of times, black and white images pop of the page more, but this I think the color does.
Have a great week.
Love the Ronald Dahl quote he is a favorite. And your nature bowls are great perspective shots.
Cheers,
Leah
They are both very nice, but I prefer the composition of the color shot.
