it's saturday, so on the other side of the planet it's already shadow shot sunday! I missed this last week, as I was out of town, and getting back home proved to be more difficult than I had anticipated. I had a reservation on Amtrak for thursday and when I checked the status of the train thursday morning it was running three hours late. when I checked the status a few hours later, it was running five hours late. so I decided to change my reservation to the next day - friday. on thursday evening I received an email from Amtrak stating that my reservation was impacted by interrupted service and I needed to phone them. the train for friday morning, which originates in Seattle the previous day, was already running five hours late. when I phoned to ask for an explanation I was told that flooding in Minot and Fargo was holding things up. what??? wasn't that back in June? they wanted to put me on a bus, for the same price. I canceled my reservation and my friend ended up driving me back. luckily she drives a Prius so the cost was a small fraction of what the train or bus would have been. but that does nothing to alleviate my disappointment with the state of mass transit in my country. small matters really though, just a minor inconvenience when I look at the bigger picture.
at any rate, I'm back home now, and happy to be participating again in shadow shot sunday.
this is my friend's shadow on her front porch wall, taken in the light of the street lamp. the next morning she was driving me back home. well that wasn't so simple either. at 5 a.m. a strong storm rolled through the area, sending trees to the ground and taking out the power. no coffee. no internet. no lights. I think the worst was no coffee. and no place in town had it either - what they'd made was already sold out! after several hours the power was restored and all was well. and I made it home!
thanks for looking at my shadow shot today. to check out more, head over to visit Tracy at Hey Harriet.
happy saturday/sunday everyone! sit long, talk much.

oh ms. becky...welcome home-glad you made it home safely. great shot of your friend. enjoy the moments of your weekend.
I, too, am glad you made it home safely! Transportation/traveling of any kind seems to get more difficult every year! Terrific shadow shot for the day! Hope you have a great weekend, Becky! Enjoy!

glad you are safely back where you belong! and hurray for your sweet friend! love the shadow!
(and the flooding in ND is taking months to subside. huge disaster - hubby is working it for 4 mos. now...)
Your friend looks startled--or maybe she's startling!
BITS OF SHADOW
Bits of shadow and blasts of light,
Morning and evening, noon and night;
Days of darkness, gloomy and drear;
Sometimes bright ones, bringing good cheer;
Spring or winter, summer or fall,
Light or shadow—embrace them all!

Terrific shadow....and glad to hear that you're safe and sound!!
What a playful shadow! Love the shot.
Becky that sounds like a nightmare. So glad you got home safe, Love the shadow picture of your friend.
this works so well in black and white....
Glad you're home safely!
Love the photo!
What a sigh of relief to be safely home ... I have a friend in Omaha and she said the flooding in that area is still a major disaster.
No train and no coffee????? Horrors! This would never have happened in Europe. LOL
Via Rail in Canada is always late, too. Floods and landslides and what-all, somewhere, making a mess of the schedule miles and miles away.

That's a great shadow - and there's no mistaking it! I'm sorry there was a storm - I totally sympathise with the no coffee part! Really I do!
That's a great shadow, lovely in B&W. It looks like it could be in an Alfred Hitchcock movie.
Your friend certainly provided you with a nice shadow.
Cool shadow! I'm glad you finally made it home. I like riding the train, but the one running through here is never on time. Frustrating.
It sounds like Southwest is a safer bet. True, the ground below looks more abstract at 37,000 feet and much better at track level - but a schedule is a schedule. And I didn't even think a train passed around or through Fargo (a city I have been to twice :)...
No coffee when you got home? Now that seems the ultimate insult after the longest ride home. Excellent shadows though!
Glad to hear that your reached safely.
Beautiful shadow shot, loved it!!
Really well captured.
Have a fabulous Sunday Becky:)
I enjoyed spending some time catching up with you. Your blogging is so vibrant and alive and it's pleasure to read and to enjoy your photos....Michelle
What an interesting shadow shot. I assume that your friend is waving? Glad that you made it home safely.
Kay is right, your ordeal could not happen in Europe... And still, there are places in the USA that try harder to improve mass transit. I much enjoyed the urban art in LA's Metro I posted about a few days ago. What a fun shadow shot of your generous friend. :-)
Dear Ms. Becky,
I'm glad that you managed to get home safely.
Great shadow shot and excellent choice for black and white.
Regards and best wishes
wow! what an adventure! I'm happy your friend drive you home safely. I smiled when you said the worst part was having no coffee. I need chocolate every day. or something sweet. makes me sleep better, lol :) can't wait to see your ten on ten! xoxo
Lucky you to have a friend with a Prius!
Bottom line is that you made it home safely! I'm in Taos, New Mexico and attending a motorcycle rally, (and there are other 'Sconnies' here too!) All it has done is rain this weekend, but we had fun anyway.
Love the shadow shot. Looks like your friend likes to act! Very cool.
Take care and be well.
Peace
Oh, my gosh, Ms. Becky ... I bet that you were so happy when you finally made it back home. At least you were stranded at your friends home; electricity or not.
Amtrack is awful. I wrote a whole post about it in January; the train our granddaughter was on was so late that we ended up spending the night in the truck stop parking lot waiting for her. (The train stop is 45 minutes from our home.)
Your shadow shot is cool! Thanks for your visit.

Absolutely gorgeous!!
Please come and see my shadows at Nostalgic Marveling, have a blessed Sunday!
Glad you made it home!
This is a very cool shadow, I like how the siding gives the shadow a jagged edge.
An incredible journey! Such challenges! But safety + coffee were attained so all ended well! And the shadow shot seems to symbolise all the drama of the journey! Good one!
GEESH...and I thought our weather was crazy, what a wild year this has been, but we've had beautiful weather this past few weeks, dry and warm, no humidity, 90's tomorrow, then 70's Tuesday...it's coming isn't it...Florida is calling my name...maybe next year!
Glad you're home and safe, FINALLY...what a fun SCARY shadow! Take care!
Oh gosh that sounds like a nightmare of a morning! Up at 5am and no coffee! I don't think I'd cope very well at all! Love your shot and I'm glad all ended well. I bet you so very much enjoyed that cup of coffee when you were finally able to have one! :)
A great and somewhat spooky shot!
