the weekend in black and white
playing around with black and white today ~
the word "fern" is from the old Anglo-Saxon "fearn" meaning feather
like feathers, the leaves of most ferns are delicate and divided...
these photos were all taken at Boerner Botanical Gardens, Milwaukee County.
today i'm linking up with The Weekend in Black and White. if you have a few spare moments, head on over there and check it out. happy Sunday everyone. be light.

beautiful 'feathers'. :)
Tickles me. http://looseleafnotes.com
Well, we both posted feathers! Mine was a wild turkey tail feather, and yours a fern! I didn't know the etymology of "fern" before, thanks!
I too am playing with black and white today preparing for tomorrow's post. Not having much luck and it looks nothing as nice is your photos this morning. Very nice Becky.
Oh, what beautiful ferns. I didn't know fern meant feather. How interesting! Lovely patterns...very nice.
Hello Ms. Becky :)
I too did not know the fern-feather connection. I loved how you've brought out the lovely shades and textures of the leaves through B&W.
Lovely ferns, very pretty in B&W.
Very beautiful! They are also so wonderful when the leaves "come out". I've met a women once with the name Fern, is it a common name in the US?
Well you taught me something new today - I had no idea about the origin of the word. I love languages for that very reason and find it fascinating how languages evolve. Lovely B&W shots and especially love the 2nd one.
Thanks for your best wishes and love that you never had me down for a you know what - such a compliment!
Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday Becky!
I love ferns. I don't have any, but I do love them. Great shots, Becky! :)
Love fact about ferns meaning feathers - how perfect! Love your pictures & shadows as well....beautiful!
Your playing has yielded lovely results, Becky. Ferns make me smile, and yours in b+w are tender... I like the contrast best in the top photo. Now I understand the etymology with feathers.
Such a nice collection of black and white images. I especially love the first one. Thanks for your recent visit to my blog via... someone. ;)
Your photographs made me feel like I was back in Oregon walking through the forest instead of living in the desert. Thanks for the memories.
Very nice compositions and excellent choice for black and white.
Regards!
Hello, Ms. Becky. The ferns do look like feathers! Apologies for not visiting lately. I migrated my blog to WordPress and it is now up and running. Please come visit me to my new site when you have time. Thank you.
Inside Cambodia
The light is GORGEOUS in these images.
Loved the first photo the most. Beautiful.
love ferns! lovely compositions
Beautifully shot! Loved the black and white...
I remember ferns from my biology classes, they have black seed like dots at the back!!! Beautiful.
Have a fabulous week ahead Becky:)
Ms. Becky.....these are absolutely lovely! What a great subject for black and white!
Welcome to the Challenge! I love the light in all of these. My favourite is the first, with the echoing shapes.
I love black and whites! These are really nice!
I love ferns, the way the end parts unfurl so gracefully is delightful. I fully understand why the New Zealanders have adopted them for so many logos. Your black and silver ferns would fit in beautifully there! Have a lovely, safe week. (Not sure if you've been in the path of Irene)
Really beautiful. The first one is amazing!
OMG...first shot is stunning!! I see Jennifererbe agrees with me.
What a great subject to shoot in black and white. I forget to use that to my advantage. Perhaps a black and white 365. Naw-way too hard. Happy day my friend.
Now I will be seeing the true feathery nature of ferns in a new etymological light! Love it!
I like the light in these..and the DOF. The top one is my favorite as it has the most contrast. Nice job Miss Becky.
