shadow shot sunday

hello everyone on this late august morning.   our east coast friends are in the thick of a nasty storm, so lets keep them in our hearts and prayers this weekend.   that storm is impacting us here in the midwest too - it's keeping the current high-pressure system that's over us from moving on eastward.   that spells clear, sunny skies and warm temperatures for awhile.    and clear sunny skies mean - shadows!

these shots were taken while walking around  Boerner Botanical Gardens one day this week.   since it's late summer most of the perennials (day lilies, etc.)  had bloomed.   the gardens have been hit with some serious budget cuts in the past couple of years, leaving fewer full-timers to care for them.  this year for the first time the Southeast Wisconsin Master Gardeners were asked to help out in caring for them.  when called upon, master gardeners came through.   from May through the end of July 136 volunteers put in 477 hours, and 45 truckloads of weeds were pulled!   and July was one of our hottest, most humid months on record.  i think that's pretty darn amazing that so many people were willing to devote their time to something without getting paid.

doesn't that look like a nice shadowy spot to sit a spell and contemplate life?    to check out more shadows from all around the planet, head over and visit Tracy at Hey Harriet.   happy saturday everyone.  sit long, talk much.

Those gardens would be the perfect place to "sit a spell" and let the spirit do its work in me...

Shadows to chase my doldrums away;
Shadows each morning, shadows at night,
Shadows, O shadows, you’re my delight!

It looks nice on a hot summer day but when you took these shots, the benches were in the sun. I think I would find a place to sit or stand in those nice shadows.

Those gardens do look like and nice place to get away from it all. I've been following hurricane Irene and do think of those blogger friends we have that will be in the middle of it all. Hopefully thet will come out fairly unscathed.

Shadows are everywhere, and I feel your frustration. Sometimes a cloudy day is even better than a full sun day. Wondering if we are ever happy. Be safe with the hurricane issues. I think people can stay inside and divert their attentions along with camera in hand in their own homes. Imagine that...

I can't imagine a real gardener letting a place like this go unattended no matter what the weather. It's so beautiful, and the shadows are wonderful, Becky.

Hey Blogging Buddy. I hope you are enjoying sunny skies. Anticipating rain and wind tomorrow. The Princess, Tula and I will be fine.
Love that shadowy tree image, and the restful garden with blue tones makes it feel cool and shady.
You know, I don't shoot many shadows. You've become quite adept at it. I should give it a try. So many things to try. How will we get them all done?

It looks a beautiful place...I love the dappled shadows in the first shot and then the more dramatic ones in the second. Botanical Gardens are wonderful places...if you haven`t already and you ever visit London, you must go to Kew Botanical Gardens. A magical place. Always a pleasure to visit with you Becky. Happy SSS!

Oh girl, I so wanted my gardens to look like that this summer, but alas the drought has taken all, it's a struggle to keep anything alive right now, my hosta are flat, leaves are falling off the trees, it's a sorry state from all the flooding we had not so long ago...this is usually when the grasshoppers take over, but alas, my brave flock have gobbled them all, I rarely see one these days, so there are positives...and there's always next year!!!

Have a great Sunday...me mum in Florida is breathing a sigh of relief...this time!

Yea, it's beginning to get a little 'damp' here, thanks for thinking of us :-)

I think the tree shadows in the last shot are very surreal. It's great that people gave their time to help out such a beautiful place.

Hi Ms. Becky!

What lovely pictures. Man, that is a lot of weeds, when you put it that way. Thank goodness for volunteers and all that they do.

I'm concerned about those in the storms path ... it seems as if flooding is the really bad part now.

Have a wonderful week,

Kathy M.

It's uplifting to hear in these times of doom and gloom that there are still people willing to dedicate their time and talents for a worthy cause. The garden and your shadows are beautiful, Becky.
