shadow shot sunday & july 23 stone

july 23 stone -

kitty cat Daisey sits at the farthest
corner of the table steadily and closely
watching my every move
with her loving green eyes
until a bird comes to rest at the
window and then she's gone
on the chase
the futile chase

I have a contrast in shadow locales this week.   the above shadow obviously taken at the hot bright lake shore.   gentle little thing.  no matter how many times I find it and see it, that a plant, any plant, can survive and thrive in this harsh environment  fills me with wonder and amazement.   but it happens.   not just once, but all along the shore.

for the next shadow shot, I take you to the heart of the forest

these ferns are thriving too but it doesn't surprise me.   they're where they belong, and the environment isn't at all harsh.  but cool and serene.   yes, I was on a another hike.    and it was another hot and humid day but relief can always be found in the deep forest.   a sharply different perspective from the lake shore.

another fern - Northern Maidenhair Fern.   I like the patterns of this plant.

the long view of things is that the uncomfortable, harsh weather of these past weeks will soon end and we'll shift into another season.   there's something to love about each of them, and I'm happy that I live in a spot where we get all four seasons throughout the year.  it's truly a wonder of nature.   thanks for looking at my shadow shots this week.   to check out more, head on over to Tracy's place - Hey Harriet.   she lives in Australia, a different hemisphere.   now there's another contrast for you!    have a relaxing weekend everyone.  sit long, talk much.

Oh you are mean. We (Sinbad and I) thought you were going to do a feature post on Daisey. Color us sad. But you redeemed yourself ( to a degree) with those great B&W images. They look like where I go hiking all the time. Were you here? Seems that most of the posts I've veiwed this morning have B&W's on them. I need to think B&W more often myself. Keep cool this weekend.

How wonderfully cool the bridge looks. Love the shadows in your first shot.

I like the beach shadow - the solitary plant life leaves a well-defined shadow on the sand - nice. The forest offers more lush and full shadows as there is a lot of plant life. The shadows in the woods are showing up on the bridge, the cooling shade abounding. Each season has its high points, so let's not complain about the massive heat now - think instead to the snowy winter we just had here in New England. Enjoy each and every day!

I love the picture of the bridge! Hope you have cooler weather soon. The heat must be hard to cope with.

Loving your hike. . .from my desk chair :O) Last week I saw a deer munching on ferns in a preserve near here. They must be yummy.
And Daisey's loving green eyes. . .Bean's are lime green sometimes.
Thanks for your encouraging visit! Enjoy your weekend, my friend.

All are wonderful shots, but I especially like the shadow of the grass on the sand. It has the spare, elegant quality of a Chinese painting.

Like you Becky, I live where we have distinct seasons, and I love it! I'm looking forward to getting back into a routine and contributing to ShShSu. I LOVE the first shot, and am constantly amazed at plants which cling tenaciously to life in such difficult environments. Sue

I miss the four seasons too...particularly the fall - my favourite season. I love your shadow shots and your `stones` which I`m really enjoying. Happy SSS!

We live in a climate where we can conceivably get all four seasons in any particular week! I love the ferns. Whatever treatment you did to the photos really shot them out at me. I love the bridge. That little grass plant and your description brought me back to that Lake Michigan shore. Lovely.

Peace

Another beautiful set of photos, Becky. I adore ferns and would gladly see these b&w ferns framed on my wall. The lovely bridge would make a super addition to Sunday Bridges, too. :-)

Love them all, but that beach one keeps me coming back for more - I love the way you can see each grain of sand and all the different shadows they cast - gorgeous!

Tenacious little seashore plants have tenacious shadows too!

I’M YOUR SHADOW

Hello, there, I’m your shadow,
I tag after you;
Whatever you are doing,
That is what I do.

If you should fling a football
Forty yards or more,
I’ll be right beside you,
Evening the score.

If you should flick a booger
From your stuffy nose,
I will surely do the same—
Watch how far it goes!

So, friend, be very careful
What you say and do—
Whatever you are doing,
I’ll do just as you!

Lovely shots, especially the first (I like the wispy shadow) and the maiden hair fern!

Lovely! Ferns always fascinate me-even though I grew up in Hawaii. That maidenhair fern is very different from the one that I know.
