shadow shot sunday

the long shadowy hallway to light ~

photo taken at Dekoven Center, Racine Wisconsin.   It's a spiritual retreat and conference center located on an 11-acre wooded site right on the shores of Lake Michigan.   There's a Zen Garden there that's tended by local Buddhist monks and it's particularly beautiful in springtime.

hop over to Hey Harriet to check out shadows from around the planet.

Hey Friend-Excellent framing in this shot. I'm wondering is you "retreated" or just stopped by. I don't think I could be quiet enough to be at a spiritual retreat. Lovely, lovely. HOpe all is well with you.

Prespective wonderful and a beautiful light, very nice this picture.

Beautifully composed. There is an otherworldly, peaceful quality to the image, perfect for a spiritual retreat. And then, there is the metaphor of the portal. Nicely done.

So peaceful - you can feel they tranquility. I love places that feel like that. Happy SSS.

I can feel the coolness of the air in the hallway and the warmth of the light coming through the doorway. Sounds like a beauitful place to visit.

Between the arches is a dark passageway - representing perhaps less than ideal circumstances. Yet beyond the dark abyss, there is truly light at the end of the dark journey. This is perfect for a retreat, seeing the dark but forgetting all about it when we return to the goodness of light. Nice capture!

The darkness and light invite the spirit to be calm and quiet! Delightful!

That arch always feels makes me feel the holy things in life. Much nicer than a pointed steeple.

What a beautiful arch! I think I've heard of that retreat center (in a vague kind of way). You should stop by Magical Mystical teacher's link (the second one). He/she has an arch image too but in a very different location.

Very beautiful picture. A peaceful walk into the sunshine, or from the sunshine into the cool shadows of the walkway. Thanks for sharing!!

Becky, a entrancing photo! I have great memories of DeKoven from when my brother-in-law became a member of the Order of Julian.

What a peaceful image Becky, not so peaceful in my neck o the woods, as another black storm rumbles by setting the stage for HUMIDITY...YUCK...mid 80's today and mid 90's tomorrow, now it needs to dry out so I can mulch and bail the grass. I bought a small tiller, can't wait for it to get here so I can pillage my yard with extended garden space. In order for me to really put up stores for the winter, it must triple in size, a lotta work for sure, but it sure tastes yummy in the long winter months!

Have a great weekend, rain is on it's way!!!

Becky...Believe it or not, the minute I scrolled up this shot I though...”This has to be a convent!” Considering I spent way too many years with the Dominican nuns in boarding school I can pick ‘em out pretty fast. The shot is beautiful...even if it is a monastery, Lovely work. YOu notice, I am trying hard to get caught up on my posting and commenting...only 3 days left of school!

BE MY COMPANION

Come here, my shadow,
Do not delay;
Be my companion,
Show me the way;
Teach me your secrets,
Chant as we go
Of light and darkness—
Make my heart glow!
