shadow shot sunday

The Maple Tree

The Maple with its tassell flowers of green
That turns to red, a stag horn shapèd seed
Just spreading out its scallopped leaves is seen,
Of yellowish hue yet beautifully green.
Bark ribb'd like corderoy in seamy screed
That farther up the stem is smoother seen,
Where the white hemlock with white umbel flowers
Up each spread stoven to the branches towers
And mossy round the stoven spread dark green
And blotched leaved orchis and the blue-bell flowers -
Thickly they grow and neath the leaves are seen.
I love to see them gemm'd with morning hours.
I love the lone green places where they be
And the sweet clothing of the Maple tree.

John Clare

walking around my hometown of Stockton at sunset I became enthralled by these newly-opened Norway Maple leaves with the western light shining on them.   It was day's end but nature was still putting on a show...

In the springtime Norway Maple leaves hang like golden jewels with their red ribs;  in a few week's time they'll have taken on their summer colors of deep magenta. On this day they glowed, casting their own shadows against themselves.

hop on over to Hey Harriet to see more shadows across the globe.   Shadow Shot Sunday is hosted each week by Tracy.    Thanks for hosting Tracy!

I'm leaving town again for a few days.  Have a splendid Memorial Day holiday everyone.  Let us remember and honor those who've fallen in dedication and duty to our beloved county and land.

Such beautiful trees, the golden leaves nature's artistry. The sun adds a glow, the shade a mysterious feeling drawing us inside the foliage. A wonderful urban scene!

If you hadn't told me that these were newly opened leaves, I would have thought autumn was on the way!

I ALMOST LOST MY SHADOW

I almost lost my shadow,
I left it in the park;
I heard my mommy calling,
For it was getting dark;

She has no use for shadows,
She thinks they are quite grim,
And when she saw my shadow,
She thought it was a “him.”

I had to educate her
And tell her it was “she’
And now my faithful shadow
Is welcome as can be!

I really like the golden glow of the Norway Maple Sring leaves. Please post more pics when they turn magenta. We planted a Pacific Sunset Maple last year and I am so anxious to see if her leaves change color from green in the Fall. Happy SSS!

Absolutely delightful! I only have two maple trees and they are Japanese maples. I love them-they bring joy to my heart each time I view it. Just as your images here do.

These are all wonderful photos of this maple tree. I have such a reverence for trees, so I appreciate these photos. I love the close-up of the red ribs. Are these at your home?
Where are you going? I have wanderlust myself, just not sure which direction to head to. Time to flip a coin.

Peace
