shadow shot sunday

on the inside

yesterday the weather was frightful.   I kept thinking and wishing and hoping that the storm clouds and rain would move off and the sun would come out to give me some light and shadows.  no.  it didn't happen.    it rained.   all day.   and more.  into the night.  the wind howled like lonesome blues.   Lake Michigan swirled and tossed up its sand-churned waves, turning itself into chocolate foam.   there were periods of buckets of rain, then stillness, and then more buckets.   the rivers and creeks are swollen with spring's bounty.  the lawns are emeralds in the morning light.  but still....no sun.

so today's shadow comes from the inside.  I'm lovin' it so.   just kidding - lyrics from a Jethro Tull tune.   ok, since you asked, here's more -

"All the places I've been make it hard to begin
to enjoy life again on the inside,
but I mean to.
Take a walk around the block
and be glad that I've got me some time
to be in from the outside,
and inside with you.

I'm sitting on the corner feeling glad.
Got no money coming in but I can't be sad.
That was the best cup of coffee I ever had.
And I won't worry about a thing
because we've got it made,
here on the inside, outside so far away.

And we'll laugh and we'll sing
get someone to bring our friends here
for tea in the evening --
Old Jeffrey makes three.
Take a walk in the park,
does the wind in the dark
sound like music to you?
Well I'm thinking it does to me.
Can you cook, can you sew --
well, I don't want to know.
That is not what you need on the inside,
to make the time go.

Counting lambs, counting sheep
we will fall into sleep
and we awake to a new day of living
and loving you so".

lyrics by Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull)

*above photo taken at my friend Woody's house, on the east side of Milwaukee, where we sat on the inside, sheltered against the storm.

sounds like a good time to be hunkered down inside. the winds yesterday were fierce here too. we had lots of smoke blowing over from the wildfires in west texas yesterday... i'm very glad it's calmer today!

Shadow looks very cozy! It must be very comfortable to take a nap under such a pleasant light.
Here in Nara we had very strong winds yesterday which scattered Sakura.

Beautiful photo...
I love that song. I wonder how many of our blogging friends have never heard of Ian Anderson? Most I'd say!
Hope you are having a nice weekend so far.

Without the lamp, there would be no shadow...

SOME SAY THAT SHADOWS

Some say that shadows are fragments of light,
Others that they are but pieces of night,
Fleeing like demons when dawn becomes day,
Fearing the radiance coming their way.
Is one notion wrong and one notion right?
Just what are shadows if they are not light?

Egads! Sounds too miserable to be sitting on a park bench,
eyeing up little girls with bad intent,
the snot would definitely be running down my nose,
frozen fingers rubbing inadequate clothes,
no thanks!

On a cold and raw day, the dull light and shady shadows feel warm, the day outside cannot compete with the companionship inside. The sunglasses on the lamp add a bit of a look of wistfulness. However, we do know that the sun will be here again - and we will be ready!

'does the wind in the dark
sound like music to you?

Up our way the rain turned to snow which covered the yard when I got up today. Argggg, but we have 'emerald' grass too. Loved your photo and post.
Happy weekend, my shut-in friend.

Boy, the wind has been frightful here too...and the rains...Ol' Man River is out of his banks and ready to rule once again. But the chicks are really growing since I've been able to let them run about outside in their new run....free range, nuthin like it...yummm!!! I can see them from my kitchen window and Scratchy alerts to any prowlers, so no problems so far. I just have to get the covered run built now and we'll be set!

Always sumthin in my world, but that's what makes it interesting...my daughter says she hopes she doesn't have to have me committed, she'll have to find me first...I'm a child of Nature and I know my territory well...catch me if you can!!! LOL! I love being eccentric, like my Dad and my Grandad, we just see things differently!

Back to my Lemon-ginger tea...I'm gonna miss them when I have to switch to iced tea in the humid days to come...are they here yet???

Stay warm...s

I kind of like to be "trapped" inside when the weather is raging outside. Hope nothing "washed or blew" away though. Nice "inside" shot. Mickie :)

Thanks for posting the lyrics to such a great song! Neat photo too and it is really hard to imagine that kind of weather when we've had an almost windless and very sunny day here in NM! But, then again, out there by such a big lake, you guys have your own weather system.

"the wind howled like lonesome blues" - I like that! Gosh you've been experiencing some most unpleasant weather! I think my few days of light rain is nothing for me to moan about in comparison! Hope you have some sun for at least part of your weekend :)

And it's a lovely indoor shadow shot!

Don't you love the things that happen that make you have to look at things in a different way. An outside shot of sun and shadow would have been nice but instead you got creative.
The heaviness of all the horizontal lines in the background really off set the bold light in the front. I like it, it has a very architectural feel to it.
Peace~

With your very first line typed and shared makes me wanna stand up and sing: Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the shadows inside're delightful!!

Well done Ms. Becky. Well done.

Great shadow shot. My yesterday was yesterday and our weather was fearful. Check out my Sunday Bridges post and you will understand. Am afraid to go out this morning and see all the damage...fearing too much of the yard and break bank are now down on their way to the James River.

It was wild on this side of Lake Michigan, too, all day yesterday. The final insult was snow flakes!
Here's to cozy places while we wait for the sun!

Hi Ms. Becky ... what a cool post! I enjoyed it all, but especially your poetic weather report. You guys over on the east side are sure getting hit hard with awful weather. Glad you are safe and still have electricity for your computer.

Take care,

Kathy M.

I remember seeing Jethro Tull in concert!

It looks like your lamp is ready for take off. The sunglasses hanging on it give it human-like form.

Wishing you a good week! and Happy SSS.

I feel very guilty reading your blog post Becky. Our weather has been absolutely gorgeous here with way above temperatures for the time of year. Love your shadow lamp picture. hope the sun shines soon!

Great subject for a monochrome and the shadow is very subtle. I like the pattern in the background.

I like Jethro Tull. I have one of his CDs - Living in the Past, Baker Street Blues, Bermuda Triangle - it has all his big hits on there.

Have a good week, Boonie
