this shadow shot was taken in Riley's Bar and Grill, Wilton WI on a Saturday afternoon while I was waiting for my lunch. it's the preferred place to eat in town, and they serve the best Friday night fish fry in the whole county-wide area.
last Friday I had just gotten off the train in Tomah when we headed over to Riley's for some grub. there was a spot for the two of us at the bar so we ordered our fish to go and sat there drinking a beer while we waited.
Wilton is unlike a lot of other small towns in Wisconsin in that they make a distinction between the locals and the transplants but they don't make a big deal out of it. Acceptance of "outsiders" runs high in the little village. After I had sidled up to the bar the man sitting next to me immediately started a conversation. that was alright - his wife/life partner/significant other was sitting on the other side of him.
he looked very familiar, as if I had once met him, or knew him even but I really didn't want to go there so I just let it go and said nothing. the feeling of familiarity wouldn't go away though. once we got to Donna's house it came to me. He looked so like Lance Ekem from Jungle of Life blog.
Who knows, perhaps it was Lance, but I really doubt that he would have been sitting at Riley's bar in Wilton WI on a late-winter Friday night.
just one of those things. it happens more and more though - someone looking familiar but I cannot recall either their name or where I met them. sometimes that's a good thing. occasionally it's best to forget.
head on over to Hey Harriet and visit Tracy to say hello to shadow chasers around the world. thanks for hosting Shadow Shot Sunday each week Tracy!

I really like this photo. Seriously. It's so cool to see a logo on the floor and there is nobody there when you photographed!
This photo looks like a film photo in my eyes...
Have a wonderful weekend, Becky.
Mysterious is this photo!
SHADOW COUNTING
A shadow for one?
What fun, what fun!
A shadow for two—
In black or blue?
A shadow for three?
O my, O me!
A shadow for four?
Ah, mi amour!
A shadow for five?
Coming alive!
A shadow for six?
Light playing tricks!

Amazing photo. It took me a bit to realize the sign is a shadow!
Your photo has that film noir feel to it.
The dark grays and the old americana diner really give this photo character.
The B&W view is perfect for shadows - the changing lighting is artistic. The small town bar/pub seems a friendly place, I am picturing (and tasting) the fresh fis fried to perfection. Perhaps the people we meet have a sort of comforting familiarity, they may remind us of the people we have known and were fond of. Conversation at the bar should be friendly, and in Wilton - it always is!

Perhaps in another life...this happens to me all the time...much deja vou in my world methinks...this is a fabulous shot and boy does that sound inviting, fish and beer...I do miss those days of fish fries and beer drinkin', not so much now, 'cept for the fish...so sad that I hardly ever eat fish from the Mississippi, too polluted, what we've done to this beautiful planet!
I too listen to the play list all day, need to get on again and add some new stuff, I just love the ones on it and have a hard time deleting any!
Come on Spring...I need to do some light work on my chakras...too hard in the winter with the blahs...see ya soon!

i agree with the other comments...the photo has an old movie feel to it! it's a great capture and will be a wonderful memory for you for years to come!
Yes, it does indeed have an old movie feel to it! That's terrific and definitely a memory you'll always enjoy! Hope you've had a good week, enjoy your weekend!!

I like what you wrote about not remembering people. I can relate. :-)
And that photo. I love it. Truly. Places like that are the best. We like our Friday fish fry at Pete's Fish. Thanks to you, I now want to go to Pete's! Too bad we are experiencing icy weather through the day and into the night. :-/ I am sick of it!

I grew up in a small time and didn't understand how insiders can make newcomers feel a tad bit outside... until I moved to another small town. :))
Yeah, I find myself more and more wondering if I should know the name of someone I recognize vaguely.
Great shadow shot!
i am getting on the b & w photo train with everyone else. AWESOME shot.
funny feeling when you see someone and something about them, their mannerisms or whatever it is...that makes them, the place, the situation so familiar. we are all more connected then we think.
here's to another week down...closer to spring. happy sss miss becky.
Great choice to highlight your shadow shot in black and white. My family loves Friday Night Fish Fry! I thought it happened all over the country, but nope. Miss it.
I love the photo
I have been travelling through your posts and I love your work
some are stark and haunting
some are warm
your faces are wonderful
as is your face
and the poems fit so nicely
thanks for the visit and for your lovely kind comment
Peace
Love, love, love the photo. I hate those nagging feelings about not being able to remember why someone looks familiar. And they happen to me too often.
I suppose a good life lesson in learning to let go though.
Cinematic and mysterious are the words I had in mind to comment with and I see that I'm in good company. Well done. Thanks for the visit.
I've not heard of this 'Friday night fish fry' before but it sounds like a fun tradition. If that's what it is! Your photo is gorgeous! It looks like the kind of place I'd be happy to hang out for meal!
I sometimes come across people who I think I know but can't for the life of me remember who they are. And yes, that's probably a good thing that I cannot remember most of the time :)
What a great shot! It captures the feel of the place but also feel sort of film noire. Really cool!
Gorgeous shadows!
My Shadow Shot, have a blessed Sunday!
Love the shadows and the b/w table cloths echoing them, somehow. Great, moody shot.
I especially like your photo this week. I also enjoy visiting bars....
Have a good week, Boonie
An atmospheric photo with a 1920's feel! Love how the sign becomes the shadow feature! Beautiful!
I could go for a delicious fish fry right now. Even tho it's early in the morning. Love your shadow of the window 'advertisement'.
Sunday's Link for you: My "Moon"rock Shadow
This has a lovely 'Happy Days' jukebox feel to it, Miss Becky. The fish fry sounds great too. And yep, there's nothing like recognising someone, but not quite enought to say 'oh, you're so-and-so'..or simply wondering if you should say anything at all if you clearly do recognise them. One of the many 'life' moments you canvas so well here x
Hi Miss Becky,
I enjoyed your story, but I can't see your photo.
Thanks for stopping by to say hello, and have a great week.
Kathy
After a beautiful train ride, what could be more fun and pleasure to Riley’s Bar and Grill. You are a girl after my own heart. Fried fish and an ICEY COLD beer would put me right n heaven! The photo in black and white is so nice...REALLY nice.
Very cool!! What synchronicity: enjoying a meal and having the chance of this neat shot.
That's a COOL shot Becky! Bet the food was great too!
Happy Sunday!
And I think I would have asked him...
hughugs
Yep old movie feel! Nice diner :-)
What a great shadow shot! I love the tablecloths.
I like the term 'transplants' it describes the situation perfectly. It's good they're made to feel welcome.
That feeling of unsure familiarity makes me squirm and I usually decide it's my sludgy memory playing tricks on me. A friend had it happen a few weeks ago in a local coffee shop, and the waitress confirmed the person really was the actor Hugh Jackman. I would have been peering vaguely, thinking he was the dad of one of my children's friends.
Lovely shadows of the floor, it looks like you had some sun :)
Have a beaut week Becky.
Really neat shot...love the shadows of the words. I often think I know people. I can sometimes turn into a long conversation trying to figure out how that could be.
fantastic image Becky, you've really captured the character of the space. Wouldn't it be amazing if it was Lance? You should write and ask him, you never know!
A very retro looking photograph. Hard to tell what year it is taken. i really like it.
You shot is quite a fun retro image it takes us right back in time pretty cool and yes fish fry mmmmm thanks for visiting and your kind comments.
Thanks for your VERY nice comment on my SSS post. I love yours too. Sounds like you had a good time at the grill. I know what you mean about not knowing "who or where" you know someone from. When you think of the thousands of people we've come across in our lifetime, I don't feel so bad about not being able to remember. Mickie
Love it. Great shadow shot!
great Shadow Shot and story to go along with it! Nicely done!
Thanks for bringing us in with you. The floor looks like the one I grew up with ... in the 50/60's!
Great shadow. Eating some fried fish sounds good. I could probably make it to Wisconsin by Friday.
I just can't get over the moods you capture in your images. I'm having a little affair with your photography this morning...your pictures are inspiring me and lifting my mood...and encouraging me to keep trying.
Good vision here.. sweet vintage vibe, uniquely framed!
